well, apart from the different fan bases there are actually a few technical things to consider.

a lx vob server can be accessed with dynamic views from lx and win clients.
a win vob server can only server snapshot views to lx clients.
if you mix the two, you have to look at interop (samba or netapp).
if your IT department has only knowledge in one of the two, I would go with that unless there is a compelling technical reason to add the other.

I think lx scales better, but win fans will tell you it works just fine with the right network and hw.
Know that IOPs and memory and network will impact performance before many other things, so if you are looking at anything large scale, you get what you pay for.
