configuration management Questions

Many of us support automated Windows installation. I have used MS Build for some time and most recently got to play with ClickOnce which is great. But what about legacy Windows applications? Do you still use Wise or InstallShield? What are the best practices and best products for supporting legacy windows application installation?

2) After creating the package by using one of the xml file, I dont see that in teh package installer  windows

2) Im alsonot able to impor tthe users/add users.

Using ClearCase Remote Client, 7.1.0.0, attempting to deliver a single activity with a single change from a child stream to the parent.  Get this error mesage:

Error: "java.io.IOException: malformed response: Content-ID "CheckoutInfo""

Merge take place but I have to go to the target veiw and check the file in, which succeeds without incident.  Error only occurs when performing the delivery.

Five years ago, this forum used to be the best place to ask CM questions, but now it seems not many participates anymore. They all moved to somewhere else, or SCM is no longer hot?

Thanks

Hi All

Most of large organizations have a line between development area and production/operation area, due to many reasons, historical or outsource, etc. So there are a set of SCM processes for the development area, and another set  for production, e.g. change control.

Traditionally, the SCM specialists are working in the development area most of time, doing version control, change request, sort of things, util the software is realesed to production for operation.

My understanding of ITIL is more for production operational control. Therefore, as a SCM specialist, I haven't met with ITIL until today. However, when we start to talk about continuous delivery which strechs all the process all the way to production, how shall we deal with ITIL?

Thanks

Hi All

I've worked as a SCM consultant for about 10 years, in the fields of configuration management (version control), build and deployment automation, change and release management, etc, most of time with IBM Rational tools in very large organizations such as banks, telcos and governments.

I feel I masted the principles in the first 5 years, and after that, just updating myself with newer tools and ideas such as from continuous integration to continuous delivery, etc.

This time I am working in the architecture team in the government, and my official title is Technology Architect, setup enterprise SCM solution including developing SCM processes. Now my manager (cheif architect) is suggesting me going down the path as a Solution Architect and then Enterprise Architect. I am interested, but my concern is I have been away from the real software development job for years. I mean we are not writing real java code, doing design patterns anymore. We just take the whole solution from IBM. I can work on solutions for SCM, but not sure if can for other fields/industries.

So what do you think? What's your caree path after being a SCM specialist?

Thanks

Jirong

Hello,

How feasible it is to update the albd service account, license host, registry host and regsions details through the IBM installation manager response file after the successful installation of the ClearCase through the silent install or gui install.

Can it be scripted ? Please let me know on the same.  Thanks in advance.

I suppose this is both a "new CM Crossroads format" opinion as well as a question.  I have now attempted to follow two links from the old ClearCase International User Group (CCIUG) and both have come up with 404 Not Found errors.  How do I find this type of data?  The search utilties I've found on the site so far are worthless and the documents are just not to be found...

Here is a quick review of the new site:

I think the new format is pretty but disfunctional.  By completely dropping the old forums and not providing an archive to keep the old linked data available I'm afraid that this site isn't nearly as useful as it was in the past.  I've always liked Bob but I have to say I miss Patrick.  With the old forums it was easy to quickly identify a location of interest and then to drill down into that or search it for more targeted relevant data.  This new format...not so much.

Hi All

I am setting up a standard configuration management, build & deployment automation and change & release management process for all types of applications including Oracle eBS, Informatica, Siebel, Cognos, Java etc. As you know, SCM for Java and .Net types of applications are very matured, but not for other types of applications such as Oracle eBS.

Can you give me some hint on how to manage Oracle eBS applications from SCM's perspective? For example,
1. How to version control eBS artifacts?
2. How to build eBS artifacts and then deploy to a new environment?
3. How to manage changes?

We have a standard SCM tool called RTC from IBM, which has version control, build and change control functions.

Thanks
Jirong

Any suggesstion
