As a configuration engineer, what all are the points we need to discuss, or what all are the questions to be asked to decide which version control tool can be used for a new project developement?

My company is planning to move to some better tool than CVS/SVN. Hence I as SCM needs to decide which is the ongoing good tool running for SCM for Java/.Net based environment.
Basic Features apart from good SCM requirements, tool should be easy to use & easily automated for Release management/Nightly builds like using Hudson. Good support on editor on windows using Eclipse or so. Tool should be easily integrated with bugzilla/twiki etc.Like CVSWEB good view onto the repo.
Last but not the least a FREEWARE ;)
More specificly, integration of GIT and Bugzilla using SCMBug?

Is SCM process complexity and associated management systems sophistication is DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL to level of traceability granularity and formality required in your organization or project???

Five years ago, this forum used to be the best place to ask CM questions, but now it seems not many participates anymore. They all moved to somewhere else, or SCM is no longer hot?

Does anyone have experience with PureSCM? What are some of the biggest advantages to using this add-on to CA SCM?
Also are there any scheduling options that are available. Such as scheduling UDP's or deployments to run at a specific time. And is it possible to run multiple UDP's at once?
Is it possible to use multiple hrefresh files with CA SCM R12?

I am setting up a standard configuration management, build & deployment automation and change & release management process for all types of applications including Oracle eBS, Informatica, Siebel, Cognos, Java etc. As you know, SCM for Java and .Net types of applications are very matured, but not for other types of applications such as Oracle eBS.

Hi All
I've worked as a SCM consultant for about 10 years, in the fields of configuration management (version control), build and deployment automation, change and release management, etc, most of time with IBM Rational tools in very large organizations such as banks, telcos and governments.
I feel I masted the principles in the first 5 years, and after that, just updating myself with newer tools and ideas such as from continuous integration to continuous delivery, etc.

I go on google and search for error code issues ect. I come across this site a lot. In fact there is a thread "somewhere" in the old cmcrossroads site that I cannot access (but can see the topic on google). Now instead of the useful forum based system we have a use-less q&a system. What prompted this change? Is another website going to spring up with a forum for change management topics?
On site search gets me nowhere, what is the purpose of this website?
